Best way for diabetics to lose weight
Anyways, the less insulin we have to take, the better chances to lose weight. Wondering if anyone can give me any advice on the best way to lose weight as a T1. You can reduce your muscle glycogen stores by exercising and then they will fill back up as they take glucose from the bloodstream. Steadily as the weight came off my ratios also went down (I must have been very insulin resistant). I lost 8 pounds in the last 5 months and I am using 8 fewer units of insulin than 5 months ago. The insulin and the Avandia I am taking are both known to cause weight gain. I think that is a coincidence but I do know that the fewer carbs I eat, the fewer units of insulin I need. I gained almost 10 pounds after going on insulin recently and am having a really difficult time getting it off. I set a target of how much insulin per meal, and kept my carbs within that limit.
I bought a tread mill and started working out. T1 since 2000, diabetes neuropathy, on the pump. And the fewer units of insulin I use, the more weight I lose. Eventually I found that I was able to reduce my background insulin as well. I agree with the others that you need to cut down on your daily carb intake which i turn will require less insulin. Keep up the good work, it sounds like your eating healthy. Now I have lost 26 pounds and still need to lose 31 more. A few years ago I needed to lose 57 pounds. Even though the carbs I was eating before were healthy: wholemeal - I was eating far too much of them. It is a tough battle to lose weight but I am winning. This is what causes the BG lowering affect of exercise. I exercise 30 minutes 5xweek and still nothing.
